If you are a farmer or someone in your family is involved in farming, the PM Kisan Yojana is a significant support system for you. The annual assistance of ₹6,000 is a great relief for millions of farmers.
Before the 2026 budget, there were expectations that the government would increase this amount, but the picture that emerged after the budget was somewhat different. Let’s understand in simple terms what farmers received and what they didn’t this year.
What was decided regarding PM Kisan in Budget 2026?
In the Union Budget 2026, the government has not made any changes to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. This means that farmers will continue to receive ₹6,000 annually, as before.

This amount is sent directly to the farmers’ bank accounts in three equal installments. The government has clarified that there is currently no proposal to increase the amount under this scheme.
Farmers’ demands and the government’s stance
Before the budget, farmer organizations met with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and demanded an increase in the PM Kisan amount. Farmers argued that inflation is constantly rising and ₹6,000 annually is no longer sufficient.
They also demanded affordable loans for farming, tax relief, and easy long-term financing. However, no direct announcements were made regarding these demands in Budget 2026, which disappointed many farmers.
How many installments have been released so far?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has so far released 21 installments of the PM Kisan scheme. This scheme is providing direct financial assistance to crores of farmers across the country. Each installment of ₹2,000 is sent directly to the bank accounts, eliminating the role of intermediaries and ensuring the money reaches the beneficiary directly.
How to check your PM Kisan status
If you want to know whether your installment has been received or not, you can do this from the comfort of your home. For this, you need to visit the official PM Kisan website. There, click on “Beneficiary Status” and enter your Aadhaar number or bank account number. Within a few seconds, you will see all your information on the screen, including the installment date and status. What’s in store for farmers?

Although there was no increase in the budget for 2026, the government has made it clear that increasing farmers’ income remains a priority. Farmers may receive relief through new schemes or amendments in the future. Currently, the PM Kisan scheme remains the most reliable source of financial assistance for farmers.
