Who Needs to Pay Advance Tax?
Advance tax does not favor entrepreneurs or freelancers only. In case you earn other than your usual salary, then you may be classified under this category.

As an example, when you obtain rental income out of a property, profits out of capital gains or interests on bank deposits whereby TDS has not been computed properly, you can be required to pay advance tax. When this happens, the government will require taxpayers to calculate their estimated annual income and remit the taxes in installments throughout the year rather than remitting the taxes at the end of the year.
The installment to be paid on March 15 is of great significance as it entails the last part of the approximated tax in the financial year. It can be paid in time to circumvent interest under the income tax laws.
Presumptive Taxation Plan and Advance Tax
A slightly different rule is adhered to by the taxpayers choosing Presumptive Taxation Scheme. They can pay their full amount of advance tax as a single amount in a year as opposed to making several payments through the year.
In this case, March 15 is the only date that the such tax payers can finish with the advance tax payment that covers the entire year. The rule particularly applies to smaller businesses and individuals who take the simplified form of calculation of tax under this scheme.
Special Relief to Elderly citizens
In advance taxation, a special exemption is granted to senior citizens. In case an individual is 60 years and above and is not earning through business or profession, he does not pay advance tax.
They do not have to pay advance tax in the year even though they collect income by way of bank fixed deposits, savings accounts or through dividends. Rather, they would be able to just pay the tax amount when submitting their income tax return.
This exemption makes the retired people not to have to contend with the burden of computing and remitting tax installments throughout the year.
Is it possible to pay advance tax on Sunday?
Another issue that usually comes up when the deadline is on a Sunday or a public holiday is a question. Taxpayers are concerned that they will not be able to make the payment anymore.
This is good news because the payment of advance tax can be done with ease even during Sundays. The e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department is available 24 hours a day, which ensures that taxpayers can pay at any time they want using net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.
In case an individual wants to pay offline, he or she can create a challan on the portal. One can then submit the challengan to a bank branch. When created, the challan is valid within a period of 15 days or no later than March 31.
Checks to make before advance tax payment
It is also essential to recheck the details of your incomes before the payment to prevent the errors of calculations of taxes. Begin by checking your Annual Information Statement (AIS) and Form 26AS. These documents ensure that the full record of income against your PAN is done and may prevent the possibility of missing any income.
Income due to various sources like rent due to property, work as a freelancer, and interest due on bank deposit are other sources of income that need careful calculation. Comparing these amounts to your AIS and bank statements is likely to allow you to better determine how much you owe in taxes.
The importance of paying money in advance as tax
The early payment of advance tax prevents taxpayers to be in violations of the rules of income tax and unnecessary penalties. It further dispels the tax load throughout the year instead of coming up with a big tax payment at the moment of submitting returns.

To many people who have many sources of income, advance tax is an ingenious method to handle taxation and prevent the eleventh-hour financial rush.
