EPFO Interest Rate 2025-26: PF is not merely a deduction to millions of working people, but a promise of their security in the future. Each month, a small percentage is taken off their salary, and as time goes by, that amount is added up as a huge investment upon their retirement.
Thus, employees are eagerly looking when the news about PF interest is announced. The same case happens this time, where the EPFO has approved a proposal to give 8.25 percent interest rate on PF deposits during the financial year 2025-26. This decision awaits the last approval by the Finance Ministry.

| Financial Year | Interest Rate |
|---|---|
| 2025–26 (Proposed) | 8.25% |
| 2023–24 | 8.25% |
| 2022–23 | 8.15% |
| 2021–22 | 8.10% |
| 2020–21 | 8.50% |
It will directly benefit more than 7 crore employees

Millions of employees in the country will be affected by this decision. It is presumed that over 7 crore EPFO account holders will be beneficiaries. This was arrived at in a Central Board of Trustees (CBT) meeting of EPFO which unanimously voted in favor of the proposal.
The current world is experiencing a continuous increase in inflation and it is hard to achieve good returns on savings. In this case, the 8.25 percent interest rate is deemed as an added comfort to the employees. This will empower their retirement savings and make them financially secure in future.
What has been the trend of the PF interest rate the past years?
Considering the last few years, the PF interest rate has undergone a number of changes. It was raised to 8.25 percent in the financial year 2023-24, as compared to 8.15 percent in the past. In the year 2021-22, the rate has declined to 8.10 percent, which was deemed as the lowest in almost 40 years.
In 2020-21, the interest rate of PF was 8.5 percent in the past. In view of such figures, continuation of the rate of 8.25 percent is a good development to employees.

What’s next?
The proposal that was passed by the Central Board of Trustees at EPFO is now subject to the Finance Ministry. This rate is not going to be an applicable rate until it is officially approved by the Ministry.
Once the government gives its approval, the EPFO will start the task of applying interest to the accounts of its millions of members. It is time-consuming yearly as making updates on such a massive scale of interest in millions of accounts is a big administrative effort.
When will PF interest be accrued?
The PF interest is charged every month in the year, however, once the financial year is at an end, the interest is charged into the account on the same time. It has been observed that interest is usually charged on the accounts of the employees in the months of June to September as per experience in the last few years.

Considering this trend, it is assumed that the interest in the financial year 2025-26 can also be accredited to the accounts in the same year as next year. But it will be obvious upon government approval and successful completion of the process.
