What is the Griha Aadhaar scheme and why is it special?

The Griha Aadhar Yojana was launched in 2012 by then-Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to women who handle household responsibilities but lack their own source of income. Over time, the scheme has become one of Goa’s most trusted women’s welfare schemes.
Now, under the direction of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the payment process has been further improved so that eligible women receive their payments on time and no one is deprived of the benefits.
The assistance amount will be directly transferred to their accounts every month.
Previously, many women complained about delays in receiving funds under this scheme, but now the government has streamlined the document verification and payment system. The Women and Child Development Department has organized special camps to verify beneficiaries’ documents.
Since then, it has been decided that an amount of ₹1,500 will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible women on the 10th of every month. This direct benefit transfer system has increased transparency and ensured that women receive timely assistance.
Which women will benefit from the scheme?
Several necessary conditions have been established to ensure that assistance reaches the right people. Applicants must be married and at least 18 years of age. They must also be permanent residents of Goa and prove that they have lived there for the past 15 years.
To prioritize economically disadvantaged families, an income limit has been set, requiring the combined annual income of the couple to not exceed ₹300,000.
Why is this scheme important in women’s lives?
The Griha Aadhar Scheme is not just a monetary scheme, but an initiative that gives women respect and confidence. Many housewives use this amount to cover small household expenses, children’s education, medicines, or purchase essential items.
This reduces financial pressure on the family and helps women realize that their contribution is equally important. This is why this scheme is becoming increasingly popular among women in Goa.
A Strong Social Security Initiative in Changing Times

In today’s times, when inflation is constantly rising, such schemes provide a safety net for vulnerable sections of society. The Griha Aadhar Scheme has provided financial stability to thousands of families and inspired women to become self-reliant. If the government continues to strengthen such schemes, the economic situation of women can improve further in the future.
